TED: Tim Brown

This video sparks a few interesting points that are applicable to designers and artists, even to everyone in society today. To be creative and to come up with innovative ideas, we have to be a Grade 1 child again, and remove the notion of fear and peer pressure. It is hard to avoid the entire presence of judgement from our peers, but if we can break that barrier, and start a new wave of fearless and daring artists, creativity will increase tenfold. To be creative is to be fearless, and that point as Brown mentioned is key to innovation.

Harajuku

Harajuku is full with creative street fashion during the weekends, where Japanese take a day off and let release stress to just hang out with friends and go shopping after a long week of hard work.

Creative costumes

Cosplay or costume play, is a form of expressing creativity, as cosplayers use various items to make their props or costumes. Usually EVA foam is used to make armor, wood/cardboard is used to make props such as weapons and shields, and various cloth materials are used to make the costumes, sometimes even aluminum is used.

Creativity sometimes pops up when we are having random conversations with our buddies, as that's when we are at our craziest.

Interior design

Creativity can be seen in this interior design of a boy's bedroom. Using the notion of "boys only" and their playful nature, the designer used the ideas to create an interesting yet simple space.

Why?

As artists and designers, we have to let our mind be free to come up with new innovative ideas to wow the mass. This also ensures a constant flow of creative pieces come up in the world, colouring it in a wide array of ideas.

Creative leads to

This watermelon carving is making use of the properties of a watermelon, namely, it's high in water content. The artist carved it in a form of a swimmer whose main realm is in the water, thus fully utilizing the materials and meaning of this creative piece.
